A dua that Abu Bakr (RA) would make

اللهمَّ اجعَلْ خيرَ عُمري آخِرَه، واجعَلْ خيرَ عَملي خواتِمَه، واجعَل خيرَ أَيامي يومَ أَلقاكَ

Allāhummaj-‘al khayra ‘umurī ākhirahū, waj-‘al khayra ‘amalī khawātimahū, waj-‘al khayra ayyāmī yawma alqāk.

“O Allāh, may the best of my years be its final moments, may the best of my actions be my concluding ones, and may the best of my days be the day I meet you.”

Abu Eesa said commenting on the above:

This du‘ā has been narrated from the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) but none of the chains are authentic enough to establish it as a saying of his.

Instead this athar is narrated in mursal form as a du‘ā of Abu Bakr with an acceptable chain, and collected by Ibn Abi Shaybah in his Muṣannaf, 6/65.

It has also been (weakly) narrated on the authority of Anas b. Mālik that Abu Bakr (raḍīyAllāhu ‘anhumā) would say this with a slight variation every time he would finish from the obligatory prayer.

All in all, this is a wonderful, short yet comprehensive du‘ā which truly sums up all one could wish for from one’s ‘ibādah to Allah jalla wa ‘alā – and we ask Him to allow us to be included in al-Ṣiddīq’s du‘ā and that we be with him and his friends in the gardens of our Lord, amīn.
